Amid the frequent news of wars and conflicts around the world, a photo and message of peace from Zambia deeply touched my heart.
Today, I'd like to share my thoughts as both a teacher and a mother after reading about the HWPL World Christian Peace Academy (ICPA) held in Lusaka, Zambia.
Although I wasn't there in person, the photos and reports shared by the media left a strong impression on me as they showed people from different backgrounds taking steps toward peace together.

Meaningful Dialogue for Peace in Lusaka, Zambia
On March 14, a special gathering took place in Lusaka, the capital city of Zambia.
It was an event hosted by HWPL as part of
the World Christian Peace Academy (ICPA) and Fellowship Gathering.
What stood out to me was that this event was more than just a religious gathering. It was held in cooperation with the National Guidance and Religious Affairs Ministry (NGRA) under the Office of the Vice President and the Zambia Interfaith Networking Group (ZINGO).
It was inspiring to see people from diverse backgrounds united by the shared value of peace.
It reminded me that the world our children
will grow up in depends greatly on understanding and respecting one another's
differences.

Through Humility and Mutual Respect
According to reports, around 90 participants attended, including Christian leaders, pastors, and members of the media.
Several major Christian organizations in
Zambia reportedly took part as well, including ICOZ, MAGE, and ACOC.
One message that particularly resonated
with me came from ZINGO Secretary General Syvers Hamukoma.
"True unity can be achieved when
churches of different traditions and denominations engage in dialogue with
humility and mutual respect."
His words reminded me that peace begins not by eliminating differences, but by listening and seeking to understand one another.
The same principle applies in our homes and schools as well.
Perhaps one of the greatest lessons we can
teach children is to model respect and meaningful dialogue ourselves.

Discovering the Path to Peace Through the Bible
During the event, participants watched ICPA lectures and then took part in discussions exploring key questions from a biblical perspective, as well as the role of faith in promoting peace.
Even though they belonged to different
denominations, they came together to exchange ideas and insights centered on
the shared value of peace.
Could it be that peace begins not only at major international conferences, but also in small gatherings where people genuinely listen to one another?

Participation and Action Reflected in the Photos
Another aspect that caught my attention was what I saw in the event photos.
The images showed active participation and
interaction rather than passive attendance.
The photos showed participants planning practical service projects such as food bank initiatives and community clean-up activities.
Seeing notes covering the walls with messages about peace reminded me that peace becomes truly powerful when it is translated into action.
When children experience respect, kindness, and cooperation firsthand, peace becomes more than a concept—it becomes a way of life.

Celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the DPCW and Pursuing Sustainable Peace
The event was especially meaningful as it took place during the 10th anniversary year of HWPL's Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW), proclaimed on March 14, 2016.
The DPCW is known for having been drafted
with the participation of international law experts and for emphasizing the
promotion of a culture of peace and cooperation within the international community.
Learning that Christian leaders around the world are gathering through ICPA to support peace reminded me that the desire for peace transcends borders and cultures.

Even though I've never been to Zambia, the photos and reports made me feel the genuine passion of the people working for peace.
What is the best way to teach our children about peace?
Perhaps, more than grand explanations, it begins with a kind word spoken to a family member today.
Or a small act of accepting and respecting
a friend's differences.
I hope the movement for peace that began in
Lusaka, Zambia, continues to spread and touch the hearts of many people around
the world. 🌍
