32 Peace Tours Completed in His 80s and 90s: The Legacy of HWPL Chairman Lee Man-hee

Everyone talks about peace.

The word 'peace' appears constantly in speeches, international events, and the media. But it is not easy to find examples of that universal desire being translated into sustained, concrete action.

Recently, I came across an article outlining the 14-year record of the 1st through 32nd World Peace Tours led by Lee Man-hee, Chairman of Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light(HWPL).

What made me reflect deeply on his journey was not merely the scale of his activities, but the determination and sense of mission behind them.

1. When Numbers Tell a Human Story

According to the article, Chairman Lee began these Peace Tours in 2012, when he was already in his 80s, and continued them into his 90s.

Over 14 years, he undertook 32 Peace Tours around the world, carrying with him what he called the “Heaven-given Answer to Peace.” On paper, “32 Peace Tours” might simply sound like the busy schedule of an active diplomat. But when viewed in real-life context, those numbers take on an entirely different weight.

The Reality of Aging: My own grandmother is of a similar age, and at that stage of life, even short daily outings can be physically demanding and require considerable rest.

The Weight of the Journey: At that age, enduring long-haul flights and time-zone changes, traveling around the world, and sharing a vision of peace would be difficult to imagine without unwavering conviction and a strong sense of mission.

Whether one views this through the lens of faith or human perseverance, continuing such a demanding journey reflects an extraordinary sense of responsibility.

2. A Shift in Perspective: "Peace Is Achievable"

As a Korean War veteran and former farmer, Chairman Lee faced the weighty mission of bringing an end to war. His prayer that he would go if God were with him became an important foundation for his Peace Tours.

As the article notes, what distinguishes these 32 Peace Tours from ordinary overseas visits is that they presented humanity, which had regarded peace as impossible, with the vision that “peace is achievable.”

By taking this message directly around the world, the journey helped people begin to see peace, once considered impossible, as an achievable goal.

3. Actions Speak Louder Than Words

It is easy to speak of a desire for peace, but traveling around the world through 32 Peace Tours to share a practical path to peace and put it into action is far from common.

Although his journey has encountered an unexpected pause at the age of 95, many are reflecting on the footsteps left by his 32 Peace Tours. Opinions may differ depending on one’s perspective, but one thing is clear: Real change does not end with calling for peace; it begins with taking concrete steps toward it.

The 14-year record of these Peace Tours clearly demonstrates the value of steadfast action in the face of limitations.
