Aloshika Bangladesh and IPYG: Building a Culture of Peace Through 10 Minutes of Environmental Cleanup Each Day

Hello, everyone!

Today, I’d like to share a heartwarming story of peace from Bangladesh. 😊

It’s the story of an NGO that has been consistently serving its local community and is now working with young people to build a culture of peace through simple acts of environmental care.

It’s about the partnership between the Aloshika Rajihar Social Development Center and the International Peace Youth Group (IPYG). 🌿

🌱 Aloshika’s Nearly 40-Year Journey of Serving Local Communities

Founded in 1985, the Aloshika Rajihar Social Development Center is a non-governmental organization that has been serving communities in Bangladesh for nearly 40 years.

Today, it operates eight branches across four regions of Bangladesh, carrying out various initiatives focused on community empowerment, support for people living in poverty, and environmental resource management.

In recent years, it has expanded its work to include healthcare and education, livelihood support, climate change and disaster response, as well as access to clean water and improved sanitation, creating more opportunities for sustainable development.

What stood out to me most was that the organization goes beyond simply helping those in need and works to create a foundation that enables local residents to build better lives for themselves.

🤝 Building Bridges for Peace: Aloshika and IPYG Together

In May of last year, Aloshika entered into a partnership with IPYG, joining forces to build a youth-led culture of peace.

This partnership did not end with just the two organizations.

Inspired by this partnership, 16 other organizations in Bangladesh’s Barisal region also formed partnerships with IPYG, joining the effort to build a broader network for peace.

It is truly meaningful to see how one small connection can lead to another, gradually spreading a culture of peace throughout the community. 😊

🏘 10 Minutes a Day: Practicing Peace by Caring for the Environment

Among the various activities Aloshika is involved in, one program in particular stands out.

It’s IPYG’s “Eco Ten Minutes Project.”

The project encourages people to practice peace by spending just 10 minutes each day cleaning and caring for their local environment.

When we hear the word “peace,” we often think of grand declarations or large-scale actions.

But even a simple act like picking up litter where we stand and keeping our surroundings clean can be one of the most direct ways to care for the place we live in and show consideration for others.

What makes this initiative especially meaningful is how small, 10-minute daily actions can add up to create a warm and lasting culture of peace within the community.

👥 Expanding the Reach of Peace Through the Youth Leaders Club

Alongside its participation in the Eco Ten Minutes Project, Aloshika is also actively involved in the Barisal Youth Leaders Club.

Through this club, made up of representatives from local organizations, members are working to establish a sustainable culture of peace in Bangladesh and gradually expand its reach.

After all, one person alone can only do so much when it comes to creating meaningful change in a community.

That is why it is so important to build strong connections among young people and empower them to create positive change wherever they are.

It is inspiring to see how a small environmental cleanup initiative can grow into broader youth leadership and a wider community network for peace.

🗣 A Commitment to Peace from Aloshika’s Director

James Mridul Halder, Director of the Aloshika Rajihar Social Development Center, expressed his commitment to building a more peaceful and self-reliant society through community development and youth empowerment in partnership with IPYG.

What resonated with me most was his view of Bangladesh’s youth as key drivers of community harmony and positive change, along with his emphasis on investing in their potential to build a culture of peace together.

Ultimately, isn’t peace something we build and nurture together in our everyday lives, rather than something we simply wait for others to create?

🌏 How Just 10 Minutes Can Make a Bigger Difference

The story of Aloshika and IPYG’s partnership once again reminded me of something important.

Peace does not begin somewhere far away or through grand gestures.

For one person, it may be 10 minutes of environmental cleanup; for another, a small act of service for a neighbor; and for someone else, a warm conversation with young people.

I believe that when these small acts come together and connect with one another, they can eventually create a powerful wave of peace that transforms communities.

I look forward to seeing what positive changes this meaningful shared journey between Aloshika and IPYG will bring in the future.

Why not take a small step toward peace today by spending just 10 minutes making a positive difference? 💚
