IWPG’s Women’s Peace Education Graduation Ceremony in Nigeria: A Small Beginning That Can Change Communities

These days, the word peace has felt a bit distant to me.

But reading this article reminded me that peace doesn’t start with grand declarations—it starts with individual choices.

The graduation ceremony for IWPG’s 3rd Women’s Peace Education program in Nigeria felt like a scene of hope in itself.

The 25 graduates who diligently completed the nine-week program—

Even through the screen, their smiles and determination came through clearly.

What stayed with me most was the message: “Graduation is not the end—it’s the beginning.”

It was a warm reminder to let the peace they learned flow naturally—from their homes, to their neighbors, and into their communities.

The words of one graduate, Jacinta, stayed with me for a long time.

Her words were simple: peace begins with me.

That’s why her words felt even more powerful.

Not peace entrusted to someone else, but peace that begins with our own attitudes, words, and choices.

It also felt meaningful that IWPG doesn’t stop at education, but extends its efforts through peace instructor training and community-based activities.

Because true sustainability means that people carry it forward.

I find myself hoping that this small seed of peace, planted in Nigeria, will spread—slowly but steadily—beyond communities, across the country, and to other women.

Knowing that somewhere in the world today, people are quietly learning and practicing peace—

That fact alone already feels like hope. 🌱
