HWPL Sri Lanka Tree Planting Initiative – Growing Peace Through “Together We Grow”

As Korea’s Arbor Day on April 5 approaches, I found myself thinking about what I could share with my child.

Around that time, I came across news about a tree-planting event in Sri Lanka.

It made me realize how a simple act like planting a tree can carry such deep meaning.

🌿 Why Do We Plant Trees on Arbor Day?

Arbor Day is more than just a day for planting trees.

It’s a small step toward protecting the environment and preparing for future generations.

As a parent, I often wonder what kind of world we will leave behind.

It’s something I find myself thinking about often.

This tree-planting effort in Sri Lanka felt like one possible answer to that question.

🌏 Tree Planting Across Three Regions of Sri Lanka

On February 4, Sri Lanka’s Independence Day, tree-planting events were held simultaneously in Moratuwa, Kandy, and Jaffna.

What stood out wasn’t the scale, but the approach.

It was the way different regions came together under one shared message.

👉 “Together We Grow”

This phrase was at the heart of the event.

🌳 Why Community-Based Tree Planting Matters

This initiative brought together government officials, youth, civic groups, and local residents.

This kind of collaboration is truly meaningful.

The idea of “togetherness” is what makes environmental efforts sustainable.

It wasn’t just about planting trees—it was also about connecting people.

🤝 Building Sustainability Through HWPL Collaboration

This event was organized by HWPL Sri Lanka.

What stood out was the effort to build a foundation for cooperation through a signed MOU.

It felt like a step toward sustaining both environmental protection and peace initiatives.

Creating something that goes beyond a one-time event—that’s what makes a lasting difference.

🌿 Different Local Stories, One Shared Direction

✔️ In Moratuwa, the local government and citizens came together to emphasize environmental responsibility.

✔️ In Kandy, young people took the lead, reflecting on their role in shaping the future.

✔️ In Jaffna, tree planting symbolized rebuilding and renewal within the community.

Though it was one event, each region reflected its own history and circumstances.

That’s what made it feel even more memorable.

🌱 A Story Connected to Arbor Day

This story felt especially meaningful because it is connected to the upcoming Arbor Day.

Planting trees may seem simple, but it connects us to the environment, our communities, and the future.

When these small actions come together, they can grow into meaningful change.

💬 One Small Act

Sometimes, while walking with my child, we stop and look at trees.

In those moments, a simple question comes to mind: “Who planted this tree?”

After reading this story, one thought stayed with me.

👉 A small action today could shape someone’s tomorrow

🌿 Final Thoughts

This tree-planting event in Sri Lanka felt like more than environmental action—it was about connecting people.

With Arbor Day approaching, it doesn’t have to be anything grand.

Even a small plant or a single tree can be enough—maybe it’s a chance for us to quietly plant a growing sense of togetherness 🌱
